Who Can Belong?

Who can belong?
First, you must own a Spencer Vessel that conforms to the following.

What constitutes a Spencer.
Members of the Spencer Yacht Owners Group are owners of a Spencer Sailing Vessel.  We also ask Spencer Power Vessel Owners to join our group.

These vessels must have been either built in completed form or Hull and Deck 'kit' by Spencer Boats Ltd. of British Columbia, Canada, or by a yard that was authorized to carry on the building with the sequential Hull Numbers.  This would mainly refer to
Philbrooks Shipyards Ltd. of Sidney, British Columbia, Canada.
In other words, a genuine Spencer will carry a Hull Number as set out by Spencer Boats Ltd.

Exceptions
In the early days, Hull Numbers did not apply to certain kit vessels.  These vessels must be verified by the Brandlmayr Family.  Also, since the closing of Spencer Boats Ltd., Spencer Yachts Ltd. have taken over the building of the Spencer to the same high quality standards of the original.  Therefore, they will naturally be included in this website.  The Hull Numbers in the new series start at Hull 1 or the Plug, and are sequential.   See
www.spenceryachts.com

Concerns.
Our concern at Spencer Yacht Owners Group is that we do not allow ourselves to misrepresent the Spencer as designed by John Brandlmayr.  Many different types of vessels have been built by Spencer Boats Ltd.  Some of these have been for other companies to market on their own.  The plans for these vessels are not necessarily those of designer, John Brandlmayr.  However, because they came out of the Spencer Boat Ltd. era, certain individuals are trying to market them as a Spencer when, in fact, they are not.  This is not to say that they are inferior.  It is simply to advise the public that only the boats designed to be of the Spencer series, will be accepted to this website.

There is an exception to this as well.  The Spencer 34, although not designed by John Brandlmayr, was done so at the behest of the yard and in the standard of the yard.  This is why it was presented as a Spencer and is accepted as a Spencer.  It also is sequential in hull numbers.

Spencer Power Boats
Having said all in previous paragraphs, you will note that we have taken it upon ourselves to break with this policy of simply shown the Spencer Sailing Vessels when it concerns the Spencer Power Boats that were designed by Brandlmayr, and produced in either kit, partial or finished form.  These are the 'domestic' power boat line and not the commercial vessels that he also designed.  We have done this to show that John Brandlmayr was not just involved in sailing vessels.   See
Spencer Power   The Brandlmayr Family will determine the authenticity of these Power Vessels.

Final Analysis.
In the final analysis, should a decision have to be made as to what constitutes a Spencer or not; that decision will be made by the Brandlmayr family.  As it stands now, the Spencer 24, 28, 31, 34, 35, 35mkII, 42, 44, 1330, 46, and 51 / 53 vessels displayed on the Website are true Spencer Sailing Vessels recognized by the Spencer Yacht Owners Group as they either carry a Hull No. or are recognized by the Brandlmayr Family as a Spencer in their terms and estimation.
