Spencer 42

Asylum

Spencer 42 - Asylum Hull 17
I own a Spencer 42 sailboat which, reluctantly, I must sell. Too many other interests and not enough time. It was purchased approximately 7 years ago and has been in dry dock in Oceanside, California (40 miles north of San Diego and 90 miles south of Los Angeles) since I got it. The interior has had extensive work by a professional boat-right including complete new cabinetry with extensive teak trim throughout, a new headliner, new bulkheads, new bunks / v-birth and more.  The hull and deck are very sound, but could use detailing and some paint.  'Asylum' includes 4 bags of sails, a Starett (Mitsubishi diesel) and a 48 foot aluminum mast with original rigging. This is a terrific project for a do-it-yourselfer.
Offering at a very good price.   Financing available.

ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
Sleeps a total of 7 with a v-berth, aft stateroom, space for 3 in main saloon.  The chain locker is forward of the v-berth.  Storage port and stbd sides consists of cabinets that all have slide latches so they will not open.   The head is forward on the port side with shower.  The counter top is new Corian with a ceramic sink with cabinets for towels, toiletries and storage space under the sink.  The marine toilet is a Raritan electric toilet with a complete spare pump assembly.   Opposite head is a double hanging locker with shelves.  There is a door on the hanging locker that allows privacy forward with full length mirror.

Aft of the forepeak is the main salon with a U-shaped dinette to port with teak table, storage underneath all benches around table.  To starboard is a settee and/or sea berth with storage underneath and a sliding storage area behind the back rest.  Out board are additional close type cabinets with sliding latches for positive closure.  One port side cabinet is wired for 12 volt.  There is a 10 disk Sony CD player, amplifier and radio.  TV and VCR/DVD player mounted on a stand that's mounted on the bulk head and swivels.  Two Bose speakers mounted on the bulkheads.  The cushions are all in excellent shape (redone 2000) and can be removed for cleaning.

The galley area is all Corian counter tops with a large deep sink all poured as one unit, no seems for easy cleaning.  Stove is a 4-burner Force 10 stove with broiler and oven.  There is a separate slide up section of counter top that covers the stove for additional counter space.   The trash bin is hidden from site and hinges out when used.  Hot and cold pressure water system plus salt water foot pump in galley.

On the stbd side across from the galley is the Navigation station.  The countertop is all Corian that covers the openings for the chiller and freeze compartments.  The refrigeration system is a Rick Beers system two circuit cold plates.  One circuit is used on an engine driven unit and the other is 110Volt shore power run unit which can be air or water cooled.  Freezer and chiller are very efficient and adequate for cruising.  This area is also where the electronics are mounted for communications and navigations.  Two banks of 6 volt golf cart batteries are under the cabin sole in the galley area (new 2004).  Batteries are wired for 12 volt systems.

Mid-ships under the center cockpit the Engine Room & work shop space is very open.  There is great access to the engine compartment and tremendous storage cabinets including a wet locker opposite engine room access. The engine room cabinets are full of boat and engine spares.  The engine start battery is a stand alone battery and is mounted in the engine room fully enclosed.  This battery has been wired in so it can be jumped using the house batteries if need be.  The stbd side of this area is the walk through and has a work bench with a vise mounted and a complete set of tools with cabinets full of spare parts.

The Aft stateroom has a double berth on the port side with storage both port and stbd. The aft head was removed and the space was fitted with proper storage shelving for spares, consumables and storage of spare sails.  There is a double hanging locker aft.

ELECTRONICS, NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT AND SAFETY:
Steering System---
The system is all hydraulic with a Wagner pump mounted in the binnacle, two Wagner hydraulic rams attached to a pitman arm that is keyed to the rudder post.  The pitman arm is slotted and drilled for bolts.  This assures a tight fit and when the bolts are removed the pitman arm slides off the rudder post.  The Auto pilot is a Robertson hydraulic R70 unit.  Both hydraulic systems have isolation valves installed.   The back up auto pilot is a CPT that mounts on the binnacle.
