eBay for Boaters

If you're like me, I mean, if you live in a place where it's hard to get certain boat stuff, the internet has created the great equalizer. It's called eBay. No longer do you have to hope the needed stuff is located nearby. With literally millions of users eBay has everything from boats to airplanes and all the parts to build either. The old adage, one man's junk is another man's treasure, never rang truer.

Nearby Spencer

Last summer I saw a Spencer 28 for sale on craigslist. It was in Ladysmith, BC, about a half hour south of where I live. Curious, I looked through the SYOG list and couldn't identify which one it was. I replied to the ad via email to get more information from the seller but didn't hear back.

First Cruise

It's been one year since I bought Seawyf and brought it over to Nanaimo from the mainland. In that time I've made a number of upgrades. After 48 years many of the systems were either worn out or obsolete.

Spencer for sale: MK I or MK II?

Recently the Spencer 35 Aja, hull number 46, has come up for sale in West Vancouver, British Columbia. According to our online database, it's uncertain exactly where the MK I series ends and the MK II's begin. We know for certain hull 47 is a MK II but hulls 44, 45 and 46 are a question mark.

Great Cruising Guide for BC waters

I've recently acquired a copy of Best Anchorages of the Inside Passage by Anne Vipond and William Kelly. Although published in 2006, it's mainly about anchorages so it won't go out of date any time soon. And you know it has to be good because it's written by Spencer yacht owners! As many of you probably already know, Anne and William are the owners of Sway, Spencer 35 Hull number 59.

About me

Hello everyone. I'm Alan, your new Assistant Webmaster. I'll be doing my best to help Larry maintain and improve the SYOG. Currently I'm the owner of Spencer 35, hull number 2, Seawyf (pronounced Sea-wife, to the best of my research) which I purchased last October. I'm located in Nanaimo on the central Vancouver Island east coast. Just out of curiosity, are there any other Spencer owners on the island? If so, maybe we can get together sometime.
