FINALLY!

Stove works :-) . I threw the old (1963) steel beast out two years ago. The project kept moving to the back burner, but has finally been completed. New stove, completely new propane system, one piece at a time. Yes!

HA

I was talking to my wife last night, describing the issues I've had and the invaluable advice I've gotten from the members of this group. Reminded me I needed to send out a quick "thanks" to everybody that's offered advice and guidance. Also to share my slip up; when discussing the group I referred to it as my "Spencer Support Group." LOL!

Thought it was funny.

Bilge issues; lost blog

Please see my post regarding bilge / battery issues in the S-35 forum. Need help! Along that vein, I saw someone's blog recently, wherein the person restoring the boat had actually RIPPED UP the cabin sole and replaced it. I'd LOVE to see those photos again, but have since gotten a new computer and lost the link to his blog.

Any help?

Thanks
Mike

A couple hundred miles into the wind: my recent move up the Chesapeake Bay

I wanted to share this with the group. A friend asked me how my trip went. This was my reply.

There aren't words for what I experienced on that trip, but I'll try.

Excited!

I have been working VERY diligently for the last month and half, spending nearly every free moment working to get Christy Lee ready to sail. Today my diesel guy called to tell me he had the new cutlass bearing and stuffing box in, the shaft installed and aligned, and the big, bronze, three-blade prop on. The engine has been de-winterized, filters changed, and a good once-over completed. He just needed some fuel in the tank I drained a few months ago and he was ready for fire it up. I haven't heard from him since, and the only time he calls is when something's wrong.

Post-layup hull flex?

Heard something interesting today, thought your experience could help me out yet again. Have you ever heard of a hull-warping effect during an extended yard period?

Winter living, part 2

Ok, so I've taken the advice everybody here has given me. One of the things I've done is purchased (3) 12vdc fans. My plan is to install the fans in under the settees and V-berth to help circulate the air in the dead spaces to prevent moisture build up where I can't see it. I figure I'll run them for at night when I'm sleeping. My original concept was to pull air in from below the chart table and move forward down the port side, around the v-berth, and aft on the starboard side to the void below the cockpit (isn't there a name for that?).

Just bought a new burgee!

When I launch with my shiny new paint job and my shiny new rig, I will be sporting a shiny new Spencer burgee to go with it!

Anchor thoughts

As the restoration proceeds I've been keeping my eyes open for good deals on things I'm going to need down the road. One such deal cropped up the other day and I handed over $175 for a 35lb CQR anchor and 4 big fenders. When I told the guy I was buying it for a 35' sloop he looked kind of sideways and asked why I was getting such a big anchor; 25 lbs would suffice. I thought maybe this might be a good thing to throw out and see what y'all think.
