                    Soren reports the following:

He purchased BLIXEN in Titusville, Florida near the end of 1999 and eventually sailed her home to Denmark with his family.  They had a great crossing of the Atlantic in June of 2000 and on the six day run from the Azores to Lisbon, they made 178 miles per day on two of those days.  They faced a Portuguese Northerly and were close reached into very choppy seas.  The Aires kept them well on track while they spent most of the time below. She performed beautifully.  BLIXEN is now a dark blue colour with a highly polished stainless steel mast and a  complete new set of sails.  The port brass frames are polished and varnished.  Soren also noted that she was on the hard for 5 years in Florida and he had much to do to ready her for duty.    The Perkins still runs great.  He named her BLIXEN after the famous Danish authoress, Karen Blixen (Out of Africa).  Her home port is in Nivaa, Denmark.  Upon their arrival they seated 12 people in the large aft cockpit.

Previous Owners - Tom Berken - Norm & Pam Stump

Information provided by Norm Stump

When Norm Stump bought Blue Leaf in 1985 it had Davits attached.  These were removed as Norm was concerned having them when cruising offshore.
Note: The name 'Blue Leaf' is taken from James Michener's book "Centennial".
Blue Leaf was an Indian Woman in his book.  Blue Leaf was changed to Timshel when Norm bought her.  'Timshel' is the last word in John Steinbek's book "East of Eden"  One of the characters in the story travels to San Francisco on weekends.....meets in a synagogue with fellow scholars and debates the historical meaning of the word.  It was first thought to be a commandment from God, but they finally decided it was a permission from God...Thou Mayest.
You have permission to follow your dreams, but you must always know that Thou Mayest Not is also your responsibility.

Name Change: It is a special moment when you put your own name to your vessel

                    Ratlines                    Dinghy

Ratlines: The kids would climb the Ratlines of Timshel and jump into the water.  Sounds like fun.  Norm reports that Timshel  (Blue Leaf) originally came with a Stainless Steel Mast.  He researched this fact and also found that only two vessels came with such a mast as it proved to be to expensive.  Note the dinghy in 'Last Photo'.  A special paint job helped stop a new dingy from being stolen.  You can guess what the name of the dingy was.
Timshel also carried the wooden roller boom as many Spencers did.
The Pedigree:  When I asked Norm if he knew who owned Timshel when she was still Blue Leaf, he did not know but he did offer something interesting.............
"" We were sailing in Mexican waters in 1987.  One day a beautiful red wooden boat (Vaquero) sailed into our anchorage.  We invited them over.  Libby, her skipper, was sailing her boat to Australia.  Her partner, Bruce Pease...a marine biologist, said  ""I grew up in Aberdeen, Washington.  This boat reminds me of a boat I sort of grew up on.  She was called Blue Leaf""  Comment: I am advised that Bruce Pease was a friend of the Owners of Blue Leaf at the time.
Timshel
was put in the hands of a broker in Tampa Bay, Florida when it was time to sell her.  Soren Peterson, the new owner (Blixen) reported the names we mentioned but also the name Four O'Clocks.  I assume the new owner changed from Timshel to Four O'Clocks    Today, she is called Blixen - in honour of Karen Blixen, a Danish authoress who wrote 'Out of Africa'.
Hull 3 has carried three names that we can confirm.  All these names are taken from books.

It appears the Names of Hull 3 have gone in this order-
Blue Leaf - Timshel - Four O'Clocks - Blixen
It is also interesting to note that this vessel has always been named around 'Books'.

Comments
In 1991 Saint Clement S-42 went through an extensive upgrade - pressure water - 110 Volt wiring - Hot Water - Refrigeration - New Upholstery and Carpets - Interior Refinishing and more.

It is interesting to note that Barrie was the original owner of S-53 Hull 5 that was commissioned on May 21 of 1971 named St. Clement.  Barrie reports that he put 54000 miles on that boat.  Today, the boat is now called Wind Rose and is owned by Rick Krell.  Barrie did work for Spencer Boats and put hard dodgers on the S-53 Center Cockpit models.  Another interesting item is that Barrie was the first person to organize a Spencer Gathering on the water back in 1970.  This gathering took place at the Seattle Yacht Club - Port Madison Outstation.
