The S-24 is a
wooden design with unique planking. 15 Hulls Produced
The 24' plywood and fiberglass sailboats were built from either Frame Kits supplied by Spencer Boats Ltd. or to design only supplied by John Brandlmayr Ltd. There is a record of only 15 owners (plans and kits) from 1960 to 1965. The boats built from Frame Kits or from plans would be basically the same but often with some modifications to suit the owner. The 'Cello' finish of the plywood has proven to be durable and a good covering for this type of planking. The longitudinal battens are not cut into the frames as done on many other boats of traditional construction. This was one thing that John insisted on in order to allow full circulation of air to minimize dry rot and to maximize the application of the sheet of planking. The lines of the vessel were carefully developed to assist with sheet plywood application but to still optimize the lines of the vessel for esthetics. Pat indicated that the S-24 Plans are available at Brandlmayr Marine
